WEEK02: Partial Derivatives MAT225 SII 2023

(My AP Classroom running Linux from 1994-2018)

WEEK02: Partial Derivatives MAT225 SII 2023

Dear Students,

Congratulations! You did it! You made it through your second week of MAT225 Multivariate Calculus!

We covered chapter 15 on Partial Derivatives. We learned about first partials, second partials, mixed partials. We even talked about two tests for Optimization: 2nd Partials Test & LaGrange Multipliers. We also learned about the Multivariate Chain Rule and the Gradient!

Please see our D2L site for screencasts, sample code and handwritten notes: 201-203.

As noted in class, the summer session version of this course is a consolidated schedule based on my Fall/Spring classes. We have the same amount of class time for each unit, but there's only so much I can cram into your brains in one week over the summer session!

Each of our 5 Units in the Fall runs for 3 weeks with 2 classes per week and 2 hours per class.

In the Summer, each of our 5 Units runs only 1 week with 4 classes per week and 3 hours per class. That's 12 hours either way.

Summer lectures follow this pattern each week:

101/102 (Lecture)

102/103 (Lecture)

preTEST1A (Review)

TEST1B (Test)

This is a consolodated schedule from my Fall/Spring classes:

101 Week 1 (Lecture)

102 Week 1 (Lecture)

103 Week 2 (Lecture)

104 Week 2 (HomeWork Clinic)

preTEST1A Week 3 (Review)

TEST1B Week 3 (Test)

NOTE TO READER:
In recent years our independent study class has been about the care and feeding of Linux Clusters: How to Build A Cluster, How To Program A Cluster and What Can We Do With A Cluster?

BTW, Shadowfax is the name of the cluster we build! FYI, we offer 4 computing courses:

CSH: Computer Science Honors with an introduction to coding in Python using SAGE, IDLE, VIDLE and Trinket

CSA: AP Computer Science A using CS50, this IDE and this IDE and OpenProcessing

CSI: Computing Science Independent Study using OpenMPI and

CSL: Computing Science Lab which is a co-requisite for Calculus students using Computer Algebra Systems such as SAGE.
