 MAT225: Week02 of Unit01 Review & preTests!

Dear Students, (Week02 of Unit01)

Good job, guys, we finally finished the content for Part01 this past Tuesday (1/26/2021)! We had a solid review of chapter 13 today (1/28/2021) on Vectors, Matrices, Lines, Planes & Quadric Surfaces:

#63) p815 (13.1) Briggs 3rd Edition

#40) p824 (13.2) Briggs 3rd Edition

#30) p833 (13.3) Briggs 3rd Edition

#50) p843 (13.4) Briggs 3rd Edition

#67) p844 (13.4) Briggs 3rd Edition  (extra)

#25) p853 (13.5) Briggs 3rd Edition

#40) p863 (13.6) Briggs 3rd Edition

Here's some solutions of homework questions from chapter 14 on Vector Valued Functions (that we didn't get to in class today):

#20) p873 (14.1) Briggs 3rd Edition

#50) p882 (14.2) Briggs 3rd Edition

#15) p893 (14.3) Briggs 3rd Edition

#45) p894 (14.3) Briggs 3rd Edition (extra)

#25) p901 (14.4) Briggs 3rd Edition

You can find a few more homework (SAGE: MAT225 2021 HWK01) solutions in the sidebar of this blog! To review for our Test1B next Thursday (2/4/2021), you need to study those 10 sections as listed above plus Matrices and our preTest1A review packette.

Let not your heart be troubled! We'll review preTest1A this Tuesday (2/2/2021), so please complete it for homework by then.

BTW, Don't forget our Elementary Calculus Review  FILKs!

Our L'Hopital's Calculus Carol Filk:

Our Difference Quotient Filk:

Our Product Rule Filk:

OK, that's all the updates for now!

Good luck and be well,

NOTE TO READER:
In recent years our independent study class has been about the care and feeding of Linux Clusters: How to Build A Cluster, How To Program A Cluster and What Can We Do With A Cluster?

BTW, Shadowfax is the name of the cluster we build! FYI, we offer 4 computing courses:

CSH: Computer Science Honors with an introduction to coding in Python using SAGE, IDLE, VIDLE and Trinket

CSA: AP Computer Science A using CS50, this IDE and this IDE and OpenProcessing

CSI: Computing Science Independent Study using OpenMPI and

CSL: Computing Science Lab which is a co-requisite for Calculus students using Computer Algebra Systems such as SAGE.

MAT225: Week01 of Unit01 Filks & HomeWork!

MAT225: Week01 of Unit01 Filks & HomeWork!

Dear Students, (Week01 of Unit01)

I forgot to mention that the two math related Filks we've seen already are based, I hope, on some very recognizable tunes!

Our L'Hopital's Calculus Carol Filk:

is based on this holiday tune:

Our Difference Quotient Filk:

is based on this 1920's tune you may have seen in the movie "Young Frankenstein!"

It's called "Differentiabul" after this version:

Differentiabul was produced by Matheatre which is a troop of Math teachers who travel the country putting on musicals about Math!

Anyway, I hope you're all getting acclimated to our class and our BlackBoard/Zoom experience so far! Please note that you are now responsible for ScreenCasts 101 (posted above) and 102 as well as the first 9 SageCell Notes on BlackBoard under Course Materials Part01.

As far as homework is concerned, in addition to watching the ScreenCasts and reading the SageCell Notes plus the TextBook sections (see below), please spend about 1 hour each night on each section of the TextBook doing a few multiples of 5 of the Practice Exercises (say questions 5,10,15,20,25). Focus on "Chapter 13 Vectors" this week and "Chapter 14 Vector-Valued Functions" next week. So you should be scheduling your homework time something like this:

13.1 2D Vectors: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp814-815 1/19/2020

13.2 3D Vectors: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp824-825 1/20/2020

13.3 Dot Products: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp833-834 1/21/2020

13.4 Cross Products: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp842-843 1/22/2020

13.5 Lines & Planes: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp853-854 1/23/2020

13.6 Quadric Surfaces: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp863-864 1/24/2020

14.1  Vector-Valued Functions: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp873-874 1/25/2020

14.2  Calculus Of Vector-Valued Functions: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp881-882 1/26/2020

14.3  Motion In 3-Space: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp893-894 1/27/2020

14.4  Arc-Length: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp901-902 1/28/2020

(14.5 Curvature SKIP THIS OPTIONAL TOPIC!)

BTW, I have only received 7 BIOS. If you have not done so already, please download the WELCOMEBIO from BlackBoard, fill it out and email it back to me ASAP! Let's Make A Deal: if you return your BIO before our first test, I will add 5 bonus points to that test! If you already sent me your BIO, you need do nothing to earn those 5 points, you already did! Thank you! However, if I do not receive your BIO by the first test, you will lose 5 points on that test. Don't be that Guy or Gal! My college email address is listed in the SYLLABUS.

Lastly, please note that the SYLLABUS on BlackBoard has been updated with the correct Zoom link for the Online Math Learning Center. Please make use of it as often as you get stuck on any work you do outside of class (as listed above).

OK, that's all the updates for now!

Good luck and be well,

MrG
