MAT225: Week01 of Unit04 Vector Calculus!

MAT225: Week01 of Unit04 Vector Calculus!

Dear Students, (Week01 of Unit04)

Let this week be a week and a half long as we started this unit the week of our last test. So we covered Triple Integrals including Cylindrical and Spherical Coordinates on Thursday 2021.0401 (not April Fools). Then we had Easter Break and came back Tuesday 2021.0413 this week for Vector Fields, Line Integrals plus Green's Theorems for Work and Flux in the Plane. Today, Thursday 2015.0415 (Euler's 314th Birthday) we looked at Surface Integrals and Flux Integrals in Space! We have one last lecture next week on Tuesday 2021.0420 about the Divergence and Stokes' Theorems.

So we will have covered the 4 Great Therems: Green's Thm for Work in the Plane,
Green's Thm for Flux in the Plane,
The Divergence Thm for Flux in Space and
Stokes' Thm for Work in Space!

Don't forget the Fundamental Thm for Line Integrals in Conservative Vector Fields as well! After this coming Tuesday, the rest of the course is all review and testing so there's light at the end of the tunnel finally!

As far as HWK04 is concerned, please do a few questions each week night. Just do a page or two of the multiples of 5 assigned in the Syllabus (see Blackboard) from each section. Don't spend more than an hour or two each night. Don't forget to review your notes, review our SAGE notes, watch our ScreenCasts, read the textbook and consult our Online Math Learning Center whenever you are stuck! Here's the pages to focus on for your Chapter 17 homework:

17.1 Vector Fields: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1096-1097

17.2 Line Integrals: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1111-1112

17.3 Conservative Vector Fields: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1121-1122

17.4 Green's Theorem: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1134-1135

17.5 Divergence & Curl: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1143-1144

17.6 Surface Integrals: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1159-1160

17.7 Stokes' Theorem: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1169-1170

17.8 Divergence Theorem: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1179-1180

Please note, after next week we will have covered everything in the textbook except for 14.5 Curvature, 16.7 Jacobians and any mention of parametrized surfaces. Don't forget, we have done a lot with parametrized curves in the Plane. So, you will be responsible for everything else in the textbook for TEST4 (mostly CHAP17) and TEST5 (final).

NOTE TO READER:
In recent years our independent study class has been about the care and feeding of Linux Clusters: How to Build A Cluster, How To Program A Cluster and What Can We Do With A Cluster?

BTW, Shadowfax is the name of the cluster we build! FYI, we offer 4 computing courses:

CSH: Computer Science Honors with an introduction to coding in Python using SAGE, IDLE, VIDLE and Trinket

CSA: AP Computer Science A using CS50, this IDE and this IDE and OpenProcessing

CSI: Computing Science Independent Study using OpenMPI and

CSL: Computing Science Lab which is a co-requisite for Calculus students using Computer Algebra Systems such as SAGE.
