MAT225: Week03 of Unit03 Reviewing Integrals!

  MAT225: Week03 of Unit03 Reviewing Integrals!

Dear Students, (Week03 of Unit03)

This week we reviewed our Double Integration Unit in preparation for next week's test. We reviewed HWK03 on Tuesday 3/23/21 and preTEST3A on Thursday 3/25/21 for our TEST3B on Tuesday 3/30/21. Here's the solutions for preTEST3A. Please see below for HWK03 sagecell answers!

BTW, there was a problem with SAGE this weekend. If you are interested, please see this thread that started debugging the issue, and this thread on how the developers solved it. Suddenly, this past week, any show() command with a string label in it would make for some very strange output! The answers were all correct, but the labels were all over the place! We even resorted to print() only sagecells for a while. Our choice in class was to either sacrifice 'pretty print' aka TEX or sacrifice labeling our output for legibility. We chose legibility. See the bottom of any sagecell for a section called 'Problems and Suggestions.' Internet access from any sagecell is now blocked as someone overloaded the system mining for bitcoin! Internet access was initially enabled so you could pull large real-world data sets from the web to do statistical analysis in your code. Well, now some hacker ruined that for all of us sagecell users. There may also have been an issue relating to upgraded MathJAX firmware on the SAGE server over the weekend. Not to worry, all is back to normal now!

As far as HWK03 is concerned, please do a few questions each week night. Just do a page or two of the multiples of 5 assigned in the Syllabus (see Blackboard) from each section. Don't spend more than an hour or two each night. Don't forget to review your notes, review our SAGE notes, watch our ScreenCasts, read the textbook and consult our Online Math Learning Center whenever you are stuck! Here's the pages to focus on for your Chapter 16 homework:

NOTE TO READER:
In recent years our independent study class has been about the care and feeding of Linux Clusters: How to Build A Cluster, How To Program A Cluster and What Can We Do With A Cluster?

BTW, Shadowfax is the name of the cluster we build! FYI, we offer 4 computing courses:

CSH: Computer Science Honors with an introduction to coding in Python using SAGE, IDLE, VIDLE and Trinket

CSA: AP Computer Science A using CS50, this IDE and this IDE and OpenProcessing

CSI: Computing Science Independent Study using OpenMPI and

CSL: Computing Science Lab which is a co-requisite for Calculus students using Computer Algebra Systems such as SAGE.

MAT225: Week02 of Unit03 Iterated Integrals!

 MAT225: Week02 of Unit03 Iterated Integrals!

Dear Students, (Week02 of Unit03)

This week we completed the content for UNIT03: Iterated Integration. We also started work on Vector Fields and Line Integrals. Next week we will review HWK03 on Tuesday 3/23/21 and preTEST3A on Thursday 3/25/21 for our TEST3B on Tuesday 3/30/21.

See below for 3 new FILKS! The first one, "Bohemian Calculus," is a general review of AP Calculus AB and about not forgetting to "add the constant C" of integration when finding indefinite integrals. Another one called "Numa Numa Calculus" is a review of basic indefinite integration rules. The last FILK (with me in it!) is all about Betty Sue's Song and her troubles with the solution for 88AB6 FRQ from the AP Calculus Exam. Enjoy!

16.2 General Regions: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1024-1025

16.3 Polar Coordinates: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1033-1034

16.4 Triple Integrals: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1043-1044

16.5 Cylindrical & Spherical: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1059-1060

16.6 Center Of Mass: Read Section, Complete Practice Exercises pp1070-1071
