preCalculus Honors 2018-2019: Fare Thee Well, You Will Be Missed! (June)

preCalculus Honors 2018-2019:
Fare Thee Well, You Will Be Missed!
(June)

JUNE UPDATE(last one):
Well, good bye to all my preCalculus students! We had fun with our Game Day, right? Hope you had a great year and you learned a lot! Have a great summer. Hope to see you next year!

CALC UNIT03-UNIT06 SCREENCASTS

MAY UPDATE:
We flew thru an 8 week intro to Calculus Boot Camp. UNIT03 was about Differentiation. UNIT04 was about Applications of Derivatives. UNIT05 was about Integration. UNIT06 was about Applications of Integrals.

UNIT02 is an introduction to Limits. It's called UNIT02 as it's a version of UNIT02 from my Calculus class where UNIT01 is a review of preCalculus. We don't need UNIT01, now do we?

So, in UNIT02 we extended the ideas of CHAP03 where we talked about Limits at Infinity and Limits at a point wrt graphing asymptotes of Rational Functions. Then we talk about 1-sided and 2-sided limits, continuity and the definition of the Derivative.

preCalculus Honors 2018-2019:
What Is A Rational Function?
(March)

Chapter03 SCREENCASTS

Chapter 3 is left as our last preCalculus chapter as it lends itself to talking about end behavior, limits at point and limits at infinity. We talk about graphing a Rational Function using factoring and long division to find holes, vertical asymptotes, horizontal asymptotes, oblique asymptotes and even non linear asymptotes. This chapter is a great warm up to our first unit in Calculus on Limits: one sided and two sided. We were one with your inner Mean Girl and learned the meaning og DNE!

preCalculus Honors 2018-2019:
What Is A Matrix?
(February)

Chapter11 SCREENCASTS

Chapter 11 was all about solving 2x2 and 3x3 systems of equations using matrices! First we worked with augmented matrices and Guass-Jordan Elimination. Then we used discriminants and Cramer's Rule. Finally we worked with Inverse Matrices. We even talked about Linear Programming and the graet John Nash!

Chapter09 SCREENCASTS

CHAPTER10 SCREENCASTS

With Chapter 9 finished our 8 Week Trig Boot Camp studying Polar Graphs and Vector Arithmetic. We found Polar Coodinate systems to be most useful when plotting none functions: Roses, Cardioids and Lemniscates. We then went on to adding, subtracting and multiplying 2D and 3D Cartesian Vectors! Remember: Dot Products and Cross Products are not the same!

After Midterms we played with Chapter 10: Conic Sections! We talked about General vs. Standard Form Conics for Parbolas, Ellipses and Hyperbolas! We even used Polar Coordinates when rotating conics. We played around with Parametric mode too. Gotta love those Parabolic Mirrors, Elliptical Planet Orbits, Whisper Gallery, LORAN and Projectile Motion problems!

preCalculus Honors 2018-2019:
Trigonometry Boot Camp Continued
(December)

Chapter08 SCREENCASTS

We continue with Chapter 8 which is all about Law Of Sines, Law Of Cosines and Special Triangle Area Formulae. We will start Chapter 9, all about vectors, after break. Fun was had by all. Of course we went preCalculus Caroling the day before Holiday Break!

We always say:

"Be one with your inner Ramanujan!
He figured trig all by himself, he was 13.
He had no school, no teacher, no book!
He didn't even have paper or pencil.
All he had was dirt and a stick!"

If he can figure out trig under such dire circumstances, so can you!

I call this our 8 Week Trig Boot Camp as we spend all of Quarter II on Trig. We spend the first 4 weeks on Chapters 6&7 as described above. Then we cover Chapter 8 (Law Of Sines, Law Of Cosines and Triangle Area) for 2 weeks before holiday break and we spend 2 more weeks on Chapter 9 (Vectors and CIS(theta)) after holiday break. Then we review for MidTerms!
